Recently Diagnosed
Recently Diagnosed with Parkinson's?
You are not alone.
A Parkinson’s diagnosis can bring a lot of questions, emotions, and uncertainty. You may be wondering what happens next, what symptoms to expect, how life may change, or where to turn for trustworthy support. Through the Wisconsin Parkinson Association, you have access to education, resources, and community to support you from the very beginning.
This page is designed to meet you right where you are—with calm, reliable information, practical next steps, and reassurance that you do not have to figure everything out at once.
Start where you are
There is no “right” way to feel after a diagnosis. Some people feel overwhelmed. Some feel relieved to finally have answers. Some want to learn everything right away, while others need time to take it in. All of that is normal.
Parkinson’s is different for every person, and your journey will be your own. You do not have to figure it all out today. What matters most is knowing that support is available and that you do not have to navigate this alone.
A Gentle "What Now?" List
If everything feels overwhelming, start here:
- Take time to absorb the diagnosis
- Write down questions for your next appointment
- Move your body in ways that feel safe and enjoyable
- Learn from trusted sources (not endless internet searches)
- Connect with others who understand
- Take breaks from thinking about Parkinson’s when needed
You are allowed to move forward slowly.
